Norfolk Pines House is located on a spectacular beachfront site at Dicky Beach on the Sunshine Coast. The site slopes down towards the ocean, with views through mature Norfolk Pine trees to Dicky Beach and the Moffat Beach headland.

The clients sought a house to retire to with their six dogs, with enough space for children and grandchildren to visit.

We proposed two different design solutions, one that prioritised a large courtyard garden, and another that was shaped around a north-facing internal courtyard. The material palette is warm and textured but tough enough to resist the extremes of sun, salt, wind and heat that come with a beachfront location in Australia. Stone, brick, copper, terracotta, and thermally treated timber are paired with lush subtropical gardens that soften the building’s edges and provide privacy from nearby public walking paths.

The project is currently in design development.
